Postojna Cave

Postojna Cave is the most famous tourist attraction in Slovenia. It is world known cave that attracts a lot of visitors from all over the world. It lies south about 50 kilometers from Ljubljana so it is perfect also for a daily trip if you are staying in Ljubljana. Postojna Cave is located near town Postojna. One of the most attractive thing inside the cave is train ride through the wonderful underground world. I am sure you will not regret to see this. Inside the cave you can see also Human fish animal and many different stalactites. The temperature in the cave is all time year constant, about 10C. So be prepared to wear some jacket in summer. Near the cave entrance is the nice park where you can walk along the Pivka River and see the mill.

If you visit Postojna Cave you should see also Predjama Castle.

Bled Vintgar Gorge

Vintgar Gorge is located near Bled and it is one of the most beautiful places in Slovenia. It is about 2 kilometers long gorge where you walk on galleries above the Radovna brook so trail is really attractive. At the end of the gorge is waterfall Sum. If you visit Bled you have to visit also Vintgar Gorge cause it is not so far away and it is worth of the visit. But you should know that Vingar Gorge is closed during winter time cause it can be danger because of stones falling down. So usually it opens in April but better to check before.

Ljubljana Zoo

Ljubljana Zoo is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Slovenia. It is located not so far from the centre of Ljubljana at foothills of the Roznik Hill. There are a lot of trees so it will not be a problem to walk around zoo even in hot summer days. For tourists it is best to use some local bus or taxi to get there but it is also possible to go there on foot. In Ljubljana Zoo you can find many different animals from all over the world. You can see elephant, giraffes, gepard, lion, bears, wolves, wallabies and much more. There is also terrarium where you will see snakes and some real big spiders. At some part of the zoo you can have direct contact with animals like pigs, goats, sheep, etc. This part is especially interesting for kids.

The Kolpa River

The Kolpa River is one of the most beautiful rivers in Slovenia. It lies mostly on the border between Slovenia and Croation in the south-east part of Slovenia. There you can find many activities to do, especially in the summer time. Most popular is rafting or kayaking. The river is quite calm so it is suitable for almost anyone even kids. From time to time you will come to some rapids but nothing very special. At some dams you should take a boat down by your hands. Other activities are swimming, camping, cycling, hiking, etc. There are many camping places that can be quite occupied in the high season cause some people prefer to go to Kolpa River than at seaside.

Logar Valley

Logar Valley is one of the most wonderful valley in Slovenia. It lies inside Kamnik-Savinja Alps so when you walk around the valley you have a beautiful view on the mountains around. There is walking trail from the start to the end of the valley but you can also use the car if you prefer. I suggest you to hike if you have time cause you will get most of the valley. On the way through the valley you can see Chapel of Christ the King, source of Crna, Charcoal-burner's Hut, Palenk Waterfal, Plesnik's Elm and the best of all Rink Fall at the end of Valley. If you still have energy then climb to Okreselj Mountain Hut. On the way there you will see source of River Savinja and enjoy in beautiful view on the mountains and Logar Valley. In the neighbourhood of Logar Valley you can see other interesting places like Robanov kot Valley, Solcava, Podolseva with Potocka zijalka Cave, Olseva, etc.

Kranjska Gora

Kranjska Gora is one of the most popular Alpine resort in Slovenia. It is located in the north-east side of Slovenia near Italia and Austria border. There are many ski slopes for different skills and tracks for cross-country skiing. Latter is especially good in Ratece or Planica-Tamar Valley. In summer season there are very good possibilites for hiking, climbing, cycling, etc. Near Kranjska Gora is the highest pass in Slovenia, Vrsic that leads you to Trenta Valley with emerald river Soca. On the way to Vrsic you can stop at Lake Jasna. From there is avery scenic view of Julian Alps. Not so far from Kranjska Gora is Planica-Tamar Valley as it was previously already mentioned. In Planica are organized ski jumps in winter. In summer this valley is perfect for hiking.

Idrija

Idrija is a town located in the south west direction from Ljubljana. Idrija is the oldest mining town in Slovenia with many preserved buildings. The early beginnings are connected with the discovery of mercury, growth, development and extent of the city were directly associated with the growth of the mine. At the end of the 15th century was made a mining settlement that got the market rights in the 17th century. Idrija was ranked among the most important urban centres in Slovenia in the 18th century. Idrija was the second largest city in Carniola until the First World War. In the past was famous for its technological achievements, intensive contacts with the European cities, developed countries and to attracting many top scientists. In Idrija we can visit many natural, cultural, architectural and engineering attractions. The most important are Castle Gewerkenegg with museum, Kamst, Klavze, the walking path by Rake, Antony's shaft, Miner's House, the oldest town Church of the Holy Trinity, Lance School Idrija, Regional park Zgornja Idrija with the lake called Divje jezero (Wild Lake). The lake belongs among the famous natural attractions of the Slovenian heritage. Idrija is also famous for delicious food, called Idrijski zlikrofi.
